Music in Worship

The music department is under the direction of Charles Charles JordanJordan, Organist and Choirmaster. Mr. Jordan has been a member of the American Guild of Organists since 1962. He is a graduate of Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He studied organ with Dr. Robert Anderson and conducting with Dr. Lloyd Pfautsch in both undergraduate & graduate school. Mr. Jordan has served the parish since 1985.

The 24 rank Gress-Miles pipe organ, built in 1983, is a little gem situated in an organ loft above the sanctuary proper and speaks directly into the nave, which is acoustically favorable to music and the spoken word.

In addition to the organ, the music department uses electric acoustic guitars, the grand piano, woodwinds, brass and drums from time to time when appropriate.

It is our desire to please the heart of God as we offer our worship - and to provide the most conducive environment for others to do the same. In doing so, the worship services may use a combination of music from various contemporary sources in addition to The Hymnal 1982 and its supplements.

It has often been said that the Lord is enthroned on the praises of His people (Psalm 22:3, RSV). May we all enthrone him as we praise him, whether in word, song, hymn or chant. And may we please His heart...

Palm Sunday ChoirThe Adult Choir sings at the 10:30 AM service and rehearses on Wednesdays at 7:15 P.M. in the church.  This Choir consists of non-professional singers deeply committed to Christ and giving back to our Lord the very best offering possible.  Mr. Jordan would love to visit with anyone considering serving Our Lord in this special place in His vineyard.  The ability to match pitch is the only requirement for membership and a harmless audition will gladly be arranged.

A diverse array of musical styles is incorporated into the worship services and ranges from the music of Tallis, Bach, Handel, Mendelssohn, Mozart and other masters, to contemporary American composers, including Houston’s own David Ashley White. Brass ensembles are in place for the major feast days of Easter and Christmas.

The Children’s Choir rehearses on Sundays Children's Choirat 9:25 A.M. in the Parish Life Bldg., 2nd floor. This choir is open to those in grades 3-7.  The children sing every 6 weeks or so at the 10:30 A.M. service and on special holy days including Christmas,  Palm Sunday and Easter.

Inquiries regarding the choir may be directed to Mr. Jordan at 832-746-5535 or at Music Department.
