Ascension Day 2009
Thursday May 21, 2009, Ascension Day, became not only a celebration of Ascension Houston's birthday it served as Bishop Wimberly's last visit to the church to bless and dedicate a covered walkway between the church and the parish hall. The addition was made possible by donor gifts. One highlight of the evening was the ringing of the bell donated by Tell-Kirk Construction Company, the contractor of the project. The bell was part of the Resurrection Episcopal Church (1957-2002) in Houston, a former congregation of the Diocese of Texas.
The celebration began with a church supper followed by a musical concert given by guest musicians from the upper school choir and orchestra at St. Thomas' Episcopal School - Meyerland. Nancy Crownover is the choir director and Sherrill Calvert the orchestra director. Ethan Crownover served as the St. Thomas' piper.
The piper led the people from the Church to the courtyard where they gathered with the Bishop, the Rector, The Rev. Dr. Walter Ellis, and other worshipers for the dedication.
Following the dedication, the piper led the congregation back inside followed by the Crucifer, Ascension Choir led by Charles Jordan, Jr., Acolytes, Lay readers, Father Ellis and Bishop Wimberly who celebrated the Eucharist and delivered the Sermon for the event.
The best Ascension Day Celebration the Church could have!
